About the ESL: The Edmonton Squash League (ESL) is a fun and competitive intercity, team oriented league run in 11 squash venues in Edmonton and surrounding area. These clubs include:

The Royal Glenora Club

Riverbend Athletic Club
YMCA – Jamie Platz (west)
YMCA – William Lutsky (south)
MacDonald Hotel Health Club
Mayfield Inn Recreation Centre
Glen Allen Sherwood Park
Terrace Fitness & Racquet Club
Fort Saskatchewan Squash Club
MacEwan Centre for Sport & Wellness

The league offers a social and competitive opportunity for players to play similar skill levels at different clubs across the city, improve their game and meet new players. The ESL also offers tournaments, team lessons and referee clinics. The ESL promotes a strong social atmosphere unlike any sport and most of the players in the league have developed close contacts and life long friendships through their participation in the Edmonton Squash League. In addition, the sport is perfectly suitable to our adverse climate and long winter months.

Teams: Teams are formed from members within a specific club. Players can register as a team, partial team or individual and the league will help place single players on a team. All Interclub players must be members of the facility they play out of. Teams consist of 5-7 players that rotate around and take turns playing every week. Each week 4 players go out to play 4 players from the opposing team at prescheduled venues and times. Each team is ranked from top to bottom or position 1 down to position 6. When matching up with the opposing team, the position 1 players play each other, position 2 players play each other, etc. until all 4 positions have played a best of 5 game match. This process takes about 1.5 hours and after the matches, the home team hosts the visiting team to drinks and snacks at an offsite restaurant or lounge. Scores are recorded through our handy on-line scoring system and the top teams play in playoffs at the end of the season.

Divisions: The league consists of 8 Mixed Levels (male or female) and 3 Women’s Only Levels. Mixed level 5 is the lowest level for new players to the league and recreational players. Level 1 is the highest level and usually includes players in the A, Open and Professional levels.
