PLAYOFF RULES

  1. Teams are seeded for the playoffs based on their ranking at the end of the regular season. Team rankings within each level are determined by the number of points earned by each team. However, if all teams in the same level do not play the same number of matches or if there are any incomplete matches played in that level then team rankings for that level is determined by each team’s win percentage. The following tie-break hierarchy will be applied to teams that are tied at the end of the regular season:

    1) head to head team match results

    2) head to head points differential

    3) head to head match results at position 1

    4) head to head points differential at position 1

    5) coin toss

  2. Players must have played seven (7) matches for her/his team during the regular season in order to be eligible to play in the playoffs. The use of substitutes is not allowed in the playoffs – all players must be registered players of the team they are playing for at season’s end. Players moving up a level during the season due to substitution will be eligible to play in the playoffs (at the moved up to level) provided they have played seven Interclub matches during the year, four (4) or more of which must have been played as part of the new team they joined upon moving to the higher level.

  3. ESL scoring of match results applies for playoffs. In the event of a tied outcome (matches and then games tied) of a play-off encounter, points scored in each game of the match are to be calculated. The team with the greater number of points scored in the match is declared the winner. If a tie still prevails, the team whose player was the winner at position #1 is declared the victor.

  4. During playoffs, ESL will ensure that all matches are played on international size courts. In the event that the home team has courts that are not international size, the matches will be rescheduled to a neutral site.
